Having celebrated 100 years in 2015, the convent-school Saint-Georges de Val-Jalbert has stood the test of time and remains one of the best preserved buildings on-site. In Québec, it's the only building still standing and bears witness to teaching when schools had only four classrooms.

Travelling Back in Time

History enthusiasts, the Historical village of Val-Jalbert invites you to enjoy a unique and immersive time travel experience. Join us to discover the life and times of an authentic company town (the village was built nearby a pulp mill) in the early Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean’s industrial age. In fact, visiting the Historical village of Val-Jalbert is exactly like travelling back… in 1927. Exciting? You bet!

An Open Sky Museum

The Historical village of Val-Jalbert is an open sky museum. Step through the covent-school, explore the general store, the pulp mill and the post office, roam around some forty period buidings and time-warp to the 1920s. Personified by colorful characters, encounter village of Val-Jalbert’s authentic residents, chat with them to learn eveything about their village, their way of life, personal history and challenges. Local leaders, workers, clergy, merchants, families, be part ot their story filled with hope. In addition to this must-have experience, the Historical village of Val-Jalbert offers numerous attractions and activities designed to capture the essence of life in a company town of the ‘20s: street animations, projections, scales models, immersive sensory experiences, guided tours, breathtaking panoramic views and many more.

The Historical village of Val-Jalbert combines in equal measure history, entertainment, nature and technology.

June 18 to August 21, all days from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
Low season: May 28 to June 17 and August 22 to October 10, all days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
Last admission: 5 p.m. (low season: 4 p.m.)
