This year, the CHAM presents a new permanent exhibition featuring regional archaeology, from prehistory to colonization, and the arrival of the first white man in Piékouagami, Jesuit Father Jean de Quen, and the importance of human contacts between Amerindians and Europeans for survival. Also featured is the fur trade era in 17th Century New France, until closure of the English Hudson Bay Company posts in the mid-19th Century. Man-made objects are presented according to their utilization and evolution through time. Projected images and created atmospheres tickle all your senses. On site, you can walk around and appreciate Lake Saint-Jean. Discover an ammunition magazine classified as a historic monument, the Jean de Quen memorial, a chapel reminiscent of the various religious communities, and a traditional bread kiln. Also shown is a painting exhibit by Claude Côté, native of Desbiens. Guided tours upon reservation (bilingual).
