NEW for summer 2011 - a new 360-degree multimedia show is slated for presentation in the water tower – A totally unique concept in Québec! This multi-sensory experience with various special effects illustrates the power and vastness of our territorial waters. Along with our activities, discover the omnipresence of water in the development of Lac-Saint-Jean. Outside: Along the trails, embellished with artefacts, children can play in the modules equipped with rope courses and suspension bridges. From atop the water tower, the view of the dam, the town of Alma and its rivers is spectacular. Inside: At Le Pouvoir exhibition, let our guides and historical figures explain, in their colourful language, how the arrival of the Isle-Maligne hydroelectric power plant changed our region and people's lives. Renowned artist and landscape designer, Brian Scullion realized a childhood dream by creating a genuine Earthly Paradise on a 40-hectare farm. You can feel his passion as soon as you enter Jardin Scullion, where outstanding landscapes, comprising 2,000 plant species from around the world that have adapted well to Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean weather. This family site, which boasts a mini farm, games for children and picnic areas, is described by professional gardeners as one of the most beautiful gardens in Québec. Three-time recipient of Tourisme Québec’s Grand Prix, Jardin Scullion also offers guided tours of a peat bog and different forest plots. On the ground floor of the reception lodge, a giant mural depicts regional biodiversity. Jardin Scullion is also open in the evenings and serves table d'hôte dinners upon reservation. With more than 650 lights, the experience is simply unique and exciting! Free strolls or guided tours – on-site restaurant service available.

Built in 1902, the mill played an essential role in the development of the area, as it served many purposes. It is a typical example on the colonization period of the region, which saw some 200 such mills come and go. Guided tours according to availability and interpretative signs (French).

Relive the birth of a tradition of excellence. Built in 1895, the old cheese factory is the only one of its kind to survive in Québec and represents a significant part of our national industrial heritage. The restored building has maintained its ancestral charm and conveys traditional cheese-maker values. Within these walls, three generations of cheese-makers have created high quality cheddar, renowed on the national and international scenes. Using ancestral cheese-making tools, our interpreter-guides take you through a typical day in the life of a cheese-maker, just as it was then, with entertaining activities throughout. Your visit will be crowned with a tasting of five different Perron cheese flavours. Hourly guided tours and interpretative signs (bilingual).

Discover the Pekuakamiulnuatsh (Lac-Saint-Jean Montagnais) culture at this First-Nation museum. Travel through the long history of this nation through permanent and temporary exhibitions. The new outdoor flora interpretation centre explores a lifestyle that is one with the land (Nitassinan). Exchange with our interpreter guides, Ilnuatsh crafts people, and find out about our evening shows. Guided tours according to availability (bilingual) and interpretative signs (French).

The CIAR presents the rich heritage and knowhow of a community that developed one step at a time. It is an enchanting site, a huge collection of objects, and a range of unique activities. The Champs du pays exhibition shows you how agriculture has left a deep mark on the landscape. The presentation of this temporary exhibition commemorates of the Sainte-Croix Parish (1911-2011). Petting farm, original 1868 settlers’ camp, vegetation maze (August), educational garden, orchard, berries, local shop, picnic areas. Guided tours according to availability and on-site interpretation (French).
